What is Butcher Me Not?

Butcher Me Not opens before the protagonist fully understands where they are. The room sways from side to side, but they cannot correct their posture. Their limbs are fixed. Beside them sits a man in a skull-shaped mask, black balaclava, and stained apron. He is holding a wide knife and looking straight at them.

It plays as a visual novel, so you move through dialogue, illustrations, and scene changes. You do not walk around the room or fight. A left-click or tap carries the story forward; a right-click or two-finger tap returns to earlier text. Those simple controls leave the protagonist’s lack of control at the center of the scene.

The game is still in development and will be released as a series of short episodes. Later updates may bring new chapters, character art, poses, and translations. The current episode is horror. The developer has said that later ones may also spend time on the characters’ strange daily life and move into black comedy.

How to play Butcher Me Not

  1. Press Play and let the browser build load.
  2. Select a language you are comfortable reading if a language menu appears.
  3. Left-click on desktop or tap once on mobile to continue the dialogue.
  4. Follow the opening as the protagonist works out where they are and who is sitting beside them.
  5. If a line passes too quickly, right-click or use a two-finger tap to step back through the text.
  6. Keep reading until you reach the end of the episode currently available.

The opening reveals the room a detail at a time. If you miss a change in the setting or lose track of who is speaking, go back a line instead of trying to fill in the gap.

Butcher Me Not tips

Read the content note before starting

The danger is already sitting beside you when the story begins. Its published warnings cover threats from a butcher, captivity, a detailed inspection of the protagonist’s mouth, being treated as property, cannibalism themes, and suggestive imagery. Read that list before starting if any of those subjects may be a problem.

Let the opening establish the room

The first few lines give you motion, restraint, and proximity before they explain the situation. Do not rush them. The sway of the room and the protagonist’s inability to sit upright tell you where the danger lies before the masked man is fully introduced.

Use back instead of guessing

If you skip a line, right-click or use a two-finger tap. Going back is especially useful when the speaker changes or when a new detail reveals what the protagonist can see.

Pick a comfortable language first

The current release has twelve listed languages. Choose one you read well before settling into the episode. The story depends on the wording and pace of each exchange, so a half-understood line can flatten a scene.

Expect an unfinished serial

Butcher Me Not is unfinished. When the game stops, you have reached the end of the episode that is available now. The story is planned to continue through later short episodes, so some questions and character threads remain open.

Why players like Butcher Me Not

The game gets to its premise quickly. You wake up restrained, the room will not stop moving, and the armed man beside you is already watching. There is almost nothing to learn before the story starts. Forward and back controls are enough, which keeps your attention on the writing and character art.

Each release is meant to be a short episode that you can read in the browser. The protagonist has no assigned gender or fixed appearance, leaving players to imagine the person in the scene for themselves. Since development is ongoing, later visits may bring more scenes, artwork, or supported languages.
