What is 2048?
2048 starts with a grid of low numbers. Press an Arrow key and every tile moves as far as it can in that direction. Equal values combine: two 2 tiles make a 4, and two 4 tiles make an 8.
After each valid move, another tile appears. Sometimes it gives you an easy pair. Sometimes it lands in the lane you wanted to use. The board stays usable when you leave room for the next match instead of grabbing every merge in front of you.

2048 tips
Pick a corner and stay with it
Put your highest tile in one corner and leave it there when you can. That gives the smaller values somewhere to build toward. Once the biggest tile drifts through the middle, the board is much harder to sort out.
Keep the row beside it in order
It is easier to join two 128 tiles when the 64, 32, and 16 values below them are already lined up. Try to keep the row or column next to your corner in descending order. A small tile in the wrong place can trap the number you need.
Reverse only for a merge
Sometimes you need to move away from your corner. Do it because the move makes a specific pair, not because the board feels crowded. Reversing direction without a merge usually scatters the values you had lined up.
Leave yourself a lane
The middle is where tiles travel to find their pairs. If it fills with unmatched numbers, the board locks up fast. Take the smaller merge when it opens room instead of choosing a move that leaves several isolated tiles behind.
Change plans after a bad spawn
A new tile can land beside an important pair or block the route into your corner. If that happens, clear nearby small tiles before trying to force the old pair together. Repeating the old plan can use up the open space you had.
