What is Size It Up?
Each Size It Up level starts with a scrambled picture cut into rectangles of different sizes. You cannot rotate a piece or leave it anywhere you want. Pick one piece, then another, and the two trade places. The level ends when every cut lines up and the picture is whole again.
A strip of open sky may give itself away straight away. A small patch of leaves is harder because it can resemble several spots in the same photo. The uneven cuts help: the size and shape of a rectangle can rule out positions that look right by colour alone.
The game has 28 built-in levels with different images and layouts. Once you finish one, the result screen shows your time, move count, and hints used. You can return to the level screen or replay the picture and see where you spent unnecessary moves.
How to play Size It Up
- Press Play and wait for the game frame to load.
- Choose an available picture from the level screen.
- Look for an edge, colour change, object outline, or large plain area that gives away a piece’s position.
- Click or drag that piece onto a second piece. They will swap positions.
- Repeat the process until the seams join and the complete picture appears.
- Read your time, moves, and hint count on the completion screen, then return to the level list for another puzzle.
Avoid opening with a string of guesses. Find a swap where both pieces have convincing destinations. One settled corner or recognisable object gives you something firm to work from, and the neighbouring sections are easier to judge after that.
A correct area is worth protecting. If a later swap disturbs it, undo that move and rethink the pair instead of letting a guess spread confusion across a section you had solved.

Size It Up tips
Start with a clear anchor
Start with the part of the picture you would recognise even without seeing the rest. A horizon, the edge of a building, or one large block of colour can pin down a piece and point you toward its neighbour.
Work from a finished area outward
Once a swap looks right, leave that area alone and study the seams around it. Building out from one corner or a recognisable object is easier than scanning every loose piece again after each move.
Compare the shape as well as the image
Colour can fool you when the same texture appears more than once. Check the rectangle too. A narrow strip cannot fill a wide opening, even if the shades seem close, so compare its proportions before making the swap.
Turn on borders when the picture gets busy
Busy textures can make two neighbouring pieces look like one. Turn on Borders to expose the cuts, especially when you are down to a few small sections and cannot tell which rectangle you are selecting.
Save hints for a real dead end
The completion screen counts every hint. If you are stuck, inspect the largest wrong area before pressing the button. A clearly misplaced large piece can expose the next move without using any help.
Make your own practice puzzle
Custom Level accepts a JPG or PNG image. For an easier first attempt, pick a photo with a clear horizon, one bold object, or a few distinct colour blocks. Repeated textures give you fewer reliable clues and make the pieces harder to sort.
Game elements
| Element | Role in game | Player tip |
|---|---|---|
| Picture pieces | Uneven sections that belong in fixed positions | Check both the image detail and the rectangle’s dimensions. |
| Piece boundaries | Show whether two sections meet cleanly | Follow long lines and obvious colour changes across a seam. |
| Hint | Helps when the current layout has you stuck | Inspect the largest wrong section before spending a hint. |
| Borders | Reveals the cuts between pieces | Switch it on when textures hide the edges. |
| Completion screen | Reports time, moves, and hints used | Replay the puzzle and cut out the swaps that did not help. |
| Custom Level | Turns a JPG or PNG image into a puzzle | Begin with a picture that has several easy-to-recognise shapes. |
Why players like Size It Up
Swapping two pieces is simple. The puzzle is deciding which pair to move next. Because the rectangles have different dimensions, you can use their shape as well as the image itself, which feels less mechanical than sorting a regular grid.
You can usually see when a swap works. A line continues cleanly across the seam, an object starts to take shape, or a patch of colour finally sits where it belongs. Each settled piece narrows the possible positions for the rest.
You can finish one picture in a short session, while the time, move, and hint totals leave room for a cleaner second attempt. When the 28 included levels are no longer enough, Custom Level lets you turn another image into a puzzle.
